3 nights in Beijing, please give some advices?
Question by : 3 nights in Beijing, please give some advices?
My travel agent came back with this itinerary. We’ll have driver/guide all the time while we are there.
Day 1 (Wed): Arriving at the airport at 10:40 am, visit Summer Palace: 798 Arts street; and Olympic stadium before checking into the hotel.
Day 2 (Thurs): Great Walls (Mutinayu); Ming Tombs; Forbidden City and Wangfujing
Day 3 (Fri): Temple of Heaven; Yonghegong
Day 4: Leave for Xian
My question is wouldn’t it be better to save Forbidden city until 3rd day and do it with Temple of Heaven? Visiting two big attractions in one day just doesn’t sound feasible to me, especially when one attraction is more than an hour car ride away. How long would it take to see Temple of Heaven? I understand that you want to hit it early in the morning, but is it feasible to do Forbidden City after that?

The day2 is too rushing. After you finish the wall &tombs, it is almost the late afternoon and you have no much time and probably get tired to do Forbbiden City. Moreover, Yonghegong is just about 20min away form the FC .Saveing FC to the 3rd day wil be better.

Yes, I would move Forbidden City to day 3. The ming tombs and great walls are like 1-2 hours drive out of Beijing. I would see if this includes the spirit way, if get it included.
They are all next to the subway stations. However, I would start at the Forbidden City first, and then move on to the next point. Yonghegong is much a smaller place than the temple of heaven. But its up to you.
Well it is a lot to do in one day, and I think you would only get to see the Forbidden city for about 3 hours (depending on Beijing traffic on the day).
Oh, and there is nothing scheduled for Friday night.
Beijing is full of many of the biggest attractions in China and many of them deserve at least 1/2 a day, such as the summer palace and Forbidden city. 798 is a place you could spend half a day in and still have things to do (like sitting in the cafes and restaurants, galleries, shops and so on). Also it is on the other side of the city from the Summer Palace.
Look the problem with China is that you are always missing out on something, no matter what you choose to do.
Ok, I would say skip Wangfujing, unless you want to buy over priced Gucci products and go from the Forbidden city through Tiananmen square to Qian Men area. There are some nice Chinese restaurants there (nothing up scale) but better than Wangfujing, which is mostly modern shopping.
If you love art, the plan to spend more time at 798 area, if you don’t then a quick stop is enough.
Friday night you might want to either see some Beijing Opera, Kung fu or maybe just go out drinking in Sanlitun or Houhai areas, or perhaps that might be the perfect night to go to Wangfujing or Qianmen area.
Yonghegong is one of the nicest temples I have been to in China. Temple of Heaven is more of the traditional Shamanistic temple that doesn’t really exist anymore, while Yonghegong is tibetan in Style, so they are good contrasts. But Yong he gong is not much more than a few hours visit. Maybe it is better to visit there after the great wall and ming tombs.
Oh, and please leave some time to walk through a bejing park and see Beijing people being Beijing People. I recommend Ritan Park which I only went to on Monday for the first time. North of there are some nice restaurants as well.
